Great Lakes Water Authority Pump Station
Location: Detroit, MI
Status: In progress Client: Arcadis, Great Lakes Water Authority
As part of ongoing investments to increase the resiliency of water systems, a new pump station is planned in the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood. InToto was asked to join the design team to develop sensitive exterior cladding strategies, considering materiality, scale, and the impact of the building on residents nearby. Breaking down the façade into a composition of three materials - brick, glazing, and precast concrete panels – creates a responsive approach to the residential and pedestrian scale. Glazing allows for both transparency and celebration of improved water systems from the outside while added louvers filter daylight for functionality of operations inside. This technically challenging, environmentally impactful, and community sensitive project embodies our “in-all” approach to design
