Highland Park Housing

This infill housing study for East Buena Vista Street in Highland Park aims to revitalize vacant lots with a variety of affordable housing options. The project is premised on using modular construction techniques to create a mix of housing types, including single-family detached homes, duplexes, and four-plexes. The design integrates both private and shared outdoor spaces, fostering a sense of community among residents while maintaining individual privacy. Parking is strategically located along existing alleys to minimize street congestion and maximize usable outdoor space, preserving the neighborhood’s walkable character. By leveraging modular construction methods, the study demonstrates how high-quality, cost-effective housing can be sensitively integrated into the existing urban fabric of Highland Park.
